Nature finds a way

When the best intentions fall down.

There's an old and esoteric podcast clip from Marco Arment talking about his desire to avoid having a settings screen in his app.

The conclusion he came to was that in his pursuit of this purist mindset, this lone direction ended up creating a series of bad design decisions. In our world of content management, I see this happening frequently, but with a bigger blast radius as normal users take matters into their own hands.

When we remove basic features people need, they don't just stop needing or using those features, they find work arounds. What's unfortunate is that the work arounds are often far worse than the original sin itself. The famous quote, "the cure is worse than the disease." rings a bell.
